LINks Exchange is running a weekly on-line discussion about the White Paper proposals to establish HealthWatch.

Equality and Excellence: Liberating the NHS proposes establishing HealthWatch England as the new national consumer champion for health and social and evolving Local Involvement Networks into local HealthWatch organisations.

Each week on LINks Exchange, we will be hosting a discussion about a different aspect of these proposals.

This week the debate is looking at issues of governance and accountability.

Paul Burstow in London to discuss White Paper reforms

Care Services Minister Paul Burstow visited London to speak to staff and local communities about the NHS White Paper ‘Equity and Excellence: Liberating the NHS’ and to hear their views on the proposals.

Mr Burstow also spent time meeting the community health team and admiral nurses to find out more about the services that they are delivering.

This is part of the Department of Health’s ongoing White Paper consultation process with third-party experts and patient groups.

The Department of Health has published a video of the event, as well as videos of visits by other ministers to different parts of the country.

Accessing Hospitals from outlying areas

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

If you live in an area such as Lydgate, Cornholme or Walsden and use the Todmorden Health Centre you can often be sent to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary for treatment.

This is a great inconvenience to many patients who will have to catch 3 or 4 buses to get to an appointment which will take them hours to get to.

While dealing with a number of transport issues in Todmorden this issue was brought up at one of the meetings.

The Metro are interested to hear from the people who are struggling to get to hospitals for their appointments. Your stories can hopefully mean that life can be made a little easier and a more efficient transport system is put in place.

If you have any stories you would like heard then please do not hesitate to contact the LINk and let us know.
